This was the situation in Community Secondary School (CSS) Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, on Thursday 23rd May 2019, as teachers and students scampered for their lives.
It was gathered that a 17yr old SS2 student had come to school with a teargas canister belonging to his late military uncle, in preparation for a duel between SS2 and SS3 students that day. While showing off the teargas canister to his fellow classmate it got detonated in the class, almost killing the other students and creating the pandemonium that ensued in the school.
Students were seen jumping down from the first floor of the two-storey classrooms building to escape from the scene.
Some casualties with fractured hands, legs, injuries and asthmatic patients were recorded and are now in the hospital.
As the Nigeria celebrates children’s day tomorrow, it is our earnest plea to parents to train up their children in the right ways and in the fear of the Lord, so they can grow up to become responsible individuals.
