Henceforth, any youth group operating in the Rivers state must revalidate its membership with the security agencies. This order for revalidation of all youth groups in the state the governor noted is to enable the security agencies take note of unidentified youth groups. In his words “I have disbanded every youth groups in the state. Any youth group must come now and revalidate, so the securities will know which youth group is this. It’s very important because they go and register, nobody even knows them, we don’t know them. So service commanders, Director of SSS, I’ve disbanded every youth group in Rivers state. Come and revalidate then the securities will now know who are these people. Enough is enough.”
In another development, Governor Wike has declared Rivers state as safe for productive economic activities. The governor made this declaration at a 2nd term inaugural banquet held at the government house, Port Harcourt. The governor was reacting to comments credited to the minister for transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, at an event celebrating his 54th birthday, that the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration could not extend railway and seaports to Rivers state because of insecurity in the state. Governor Wike said the minister’s comments are geared towards demarketing the state as the issue of insecurity is not alien to Rivers state alone; adding that, contrary to false claims of insecurities in Rivers state, the state has recorded remarkable improvement on internally generated revenue since the assumption of office of his administration four years ago. According to him “when I came on board in 2015, the revenue base was 4.5 billion, as at today in every month, we have not made less than 89 billion Naira as revenue.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES WANTS PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI TO RESCIND DECISION TO REVOKE AND WITHDRAW LICENSE GUNS FROM OWNERS…
The House of Representatives while adopting a motion sponsored by Nnenna Okeje, from Abia state, on Thursday plenary, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately rescind his decision on revoking and withdrawal of license guns from their owners; stating that the decision will further expose law abiding Nigerians to danger.
The motion followed reports that the President recently signed an executive order compelling all gun owners to surrender their license guns to the states authorities, to checkmate the rising spate of banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminality in the country. But, Members of the House argued that license guns were not the ones used to perpetrate crimes, calling on the security agencies to rather go after the criminals who were apparently carrying out their nefarious acts with unlicensed guns.
HOODLUMS AFTER POLICE ARMS IN RIVERS STATE…
There appears to be a trend following the incessant killing of Police Officers by hoodlums in Rivers state.
Recall that last Friday, May 24 2019, the escort of the chief medical director, UPTH was attacked and his police attachment gunned down; three weeks ago a team of mobile policemen attached to the Boss night club was shot dead; a police checkpoint at Igwuruta was attacked and the officers killed by the gunmen. In all these attacks, the guns of these officers were all carted away.
Police public relations officer in Rivers state, Nnamdi Omoni, state that “it gives the police so much concerns and worries when a policeman is shot and his arms taken. We are bothered by this development, so we will go all out and ensure that those rifles are recovered; because the danger it portends is very grave. It’s not only to the Police but to the teeming public. That gun could be used to kill a set of 20 people if not retrieved from them and that is why we will put in more efforts to ensure that the hoodlums are arrested and the arms recovered. We have strong intelligent reports at our disposal that certain cartel, a certain syndicate is after us, that they want to get more arms for themselves; but we have also reposition and prepared ourselves and we will burst that syndicate.”

President of the United States of America has announced tariffs on all goods coming from Mexico in a bid to curb illegal migration. In a tweet, Mr Trump said that from 10th June 2019, a five percent (5%) tarrif will be imposed and would slowly rise until the illegal immigration problem is remedied.
